Bolted beam friction joints with wedge-shaped gap are often used at the top floor-beam of steel buildings in order to make the slope for draining. The use depends only on the empirical practice in which the slip strength would not decrease if the slope angle is in less than 1/100. Therefore, 12 connection specimens were pulled-out and three beam specimens were cyclically loaded in order to obtain the relation between the slope angle and slip strength as well as behavior of the splice plates. Bending analysis of the splice plates also was carried out considering non-linearity of the material. In the test, the connection with the slope angle being up to 1/20 could be connected by ordinary tightening procedure, while the strains of the splice plates were in beyond yielding to strain hardening zone. The pulled-out test results indicated that no decrease in the slip strength occurs when the slope angle is within 1/70 for the specimens with standard configurations and dimensions, while the slip strength decreases abruptly for the specimen with thick splice plates. However, the effects of the slope angle of 1/29 and the initial strains of the splice plates were not clearly observed in overall load and deflection curves obtained by the beam bending tests. The analysis was able to assess the strains of the splice plates.
