Abstract

This paper describes a new inprocess electrodischarge dressing method for metal bonded diamond wheels. In order to simplify a process of inprocess electrodischarge dressing, we propose to utilize a floating nozzle method, one of effective coolant supply methods, since an appropriate gap for ED dressing is formed between the grinding wheel and the tip of the floating nozzle by the coolant. Accordingly, when an electric voltage is applied between the tip of the floating nozzle made of graphite and the wheel, the dressing of the wheel surface is getting on during electrodischarging without a complex servo system. It is confirmed that in the grinding experiments on cemented carbide material using a metal bonded wheel (SD600), the grinding resistance generated in the case of the proposed inprocess dressing grinding decreases compared with that in the case of conventional grinding.
