Abstract

This study is a part of the fundamental material to develop a future big tree protection. The girth of the big trees is 300cm or more. In this study, we have examined the consciousness of owners of big trees in the residential area at Setagaya, Suginami, Nerima and Itabashi Ward in Tokyo. The number of the big trees is 92 (Setagaya: 17, Suginami: 28, Nerima: 34, Itabasi: 13). The number of the respondents is 57 (Setagaya: 11, Suginami: 16, Nerima: 20, Itabasi: 10). The results are as follows;
1) Most of owners think of big tree protection, but they have difficulty sweeping fallen leaves and pruning big tree.
2) The big trees have been protected from the residential development, because owners have recognised the historical value of the big trees. 3) A lot of owners hope to support big tree protection from the Ward. And it is necessary to enrich the support system from the Ward.
