Abstract

This study aims to clarify the interrelationship between the existing formation of irrigation ponds in urban area and their environmental values based on the consciousness of residents through the questionnaire survey. The results of this study are summarized as follows;<BR>1) The environmental values of the irrigation ponds are evaluated differently depending on their existing formation. It shows that those irrigation ponds are environmentally evaluated highly that have high values in natural richness, scenery composition and utilization if they also have a good view of water surface and are co-existed in harmony with woods.<BR>2) For the ponds which have high evaluation values, they are still to be evaluated highly, even there is a distance (eg.500m) for the residents to get contact with.<BR>3) The higher the contacting frequency of residents to the irrigation ponds is, the higher the environmenntal evaluation values are given to the ponds.
