Abstract

People's recognition of changes in their daily life and landscape were surveyed in two near Lake Biwa villages in Shiga Prefecture. Corresponding with the big landuse changes in 30-40 years, there was drastic decrease in life experiences like ‘bathe in Goemon-buro’, ‘keep ox’ for agriculture, or increase in ‘possessing motorcar.’ More than 60% people think that the river and lake water became polluted recently. The larger percentage of older people pointed out the reclamation of lakelet, rearrangement of farmland, etc., as big projects in the past.
