Description

We synthesized and evaluated the liquid crystalline properties of novel bistolane-based liquid crystalline (LC) molecules having alkylsulfanyl groups. The mesophase structures were characterized by polarizing optical microscopy (POM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and birefringence properties were evaluated by microscopic spectroscopy method. They exhibited an enantiotropic nematic phase, and high order para meters and birefringence values were achieved compared with those of analogous having alkoxy groups.
