Description

Cholesteric blue phase liquid crystals (BPs) possess interesting features such as optical Bragg reflection and fast response time. Due to the fact that BPs exhibit self-assembled three dimensional cubic structures, there is a possibility that the polarization selectivity of Bragg reflection is maintained even upon oblique light incidence. In this study, we investigated the potential of BPs as circularly polarizing beamsplitting elements. Finite difference time domain (FDTD) simulations were performed along with experiments to support our hypothesis.
