Some new experimental facts with respect to the current waveform observed in hybrid aligned nematic(HAN) liquid crystal cells are demonstrated and qualitative considerations have been made on them. The HAN cell was prepared using a pair of substrates both of which were coated by same vertical alignment material. However, one of them was baked at the temperature 250℃, high enough to cut alkyl side-chains of molecule and then rubbed by a rubbing roller to obtain parallel alignment. The current waveform was extremely different between the periods increasing and decreasing voltage. A model is proposed to explain such current waveform. In that model, the origin of such abnormal current waveform is attributed to adsorbed ions on the substrate.
