Abstract
Photonic crystal (PC) with defect make it possible to localize light of a certain wavelength, and localized state can be controlled by using liquid crystal as defect. We have investigated high speed electro-optic switching by using one-dimensional PC with liquid crystal defect layer. We have estimated propagation property of light based on alignment of liquid crystal in defect, and high speed electro-optic switching is achieved by control localized state wavelength with nematic liquid crystal as defect.
