Abstract

Studies of rainfall modification techniques using cloud seeding were conducted all over the world.However, their purposes are mainly rain promotion, study aiming at heavy rain control is seldom studied. This study conducted experimental simulations using the meso meteorological model WRF with some heavy rain examples, and explored the mitigating effect on heavy rains to estimate the efficiency and reliability of cloud seeding. The results show that a strong rainy area and hourly rainfall is broadly decreased by cloud seeding.Cumulative maximum rainfall has 83 mitigation cases, 29 promotion cases, hourly maximum rainfall has 81 mitigation cases and 27 promotion cases out of the total 240 cases.It seems that the mitigating effect to be gotten easily.The height of cloud top and graupel mixing ratio are important factors which leads to promotion of the heavy rains.
