Description

The accident at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant resulted in the release of a large number of radionuclides and they deposited in the wide area. To evaluate the future health effects, it is necessary to predict the behaviors of radionuclides in the environment. As the first step, a hydrological/water quality model was applied to Abukuma river basin, located in the west of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in order to simulate the behaviors of water and suspended solids (SS) in rivers for the three years of 2009 - 2011. The hydrological model well simulated river flows in the basin both in flooding and non-flooding seasons. At the observation points, the water quality model also simulated the concentration of SS in rivers.
