Description
This study aims at hydrometeor classification and estimation of ice water mixing ratios using x-band polarimetric radars to assimilate ice water mixing ratios in NWP(Numerical Weather Prediction). A method of estimating ice water mixing ratios from polarimeteric radar observations is developed by using data sets "ice-phased mass concentration, number concentration and volume concentration of each preciptation particle by the "video-sonde" and c-band polarimetric variables' obtained from champaign observation at Okinawa, Japan. Because some types of hydrometeors co-exist in a cloud, the mixing raitos of them are estimated using a fuzzy logic algorism. Furthermore, this method is applied to x-band radars. This method of estimating ice water mixing ratios will be evaluated by data assimilation of them using x-band radar network.
