Abstract
This study discussed the sulfur systematics in the Izena Hole seafloor hydrothermal systems from the perspective of sulfur isotope of hydrothermal precipitates, the redox conditions of mineralization and hydrothermal fluids and sulfur mass balance. The sulfur isotope analysis and the estimation of redox conditions suggest that the Hakurei-site has more reducing hydrothermal condition and larger contribution of H2S produced by sulfur reducing bacteria to sulfide precipitation compared to Jade-site. In addition, we evaluate the probability that magmatic degassed H2S is the major sulfur source in the Izena Hole seafloor hydrothermal systems in terms of chemical equilibrium between degassed SO2 and H2S and mass balance model calculation.
