Abstract

The purpose of this survey is to find the content, method, evaluation of clinical nursing practice and patient education for diabetic patients. The analysis subjects were 183, women were 97%, and the average age was 40.2 years old. Although more than 70% followed medical requirements in wards regarding pathogenesis or medical treatment, the points which nurses emphasized, such as foot care, had a low rate of patient acceptance. In addition, the nurses listened to the patient's complaints sympathetically about the treatment. Although nurses tended to take the patient's psychological factors into consideration, they did not feel a sense of satisfaction because few patients followed the plan. In the nursing system in institutions, case discussions are performed in 57% of cases, and other occupational staffs participated. They discussed how to continue taking care of patients, and how to follow those who dropped out. From the results of this investigation, we found the present situation of diabetes education and clinical nursing practices and we realized how important it was to offer high quality nursing.
