Abstract

Stable isotope ratios of particulate organic carbon (δ13C)were determined for surface water of inner part of Tokyo Bay in 1982-1984. δ13C values ranged from -12.3 ‰ to -25.3 ‰ (mean -19.3 ‰) at St-25 and -10.6 ‰ to -22.9 ‰ (mean -17.0 ‰) at St-35 during April to August 1982. Good linear relationships between δ13C values and salinity, silicate, ammonium and phosphate were observed, respectively at four stations locating from the estuary of the Arakawa River to the southward. This suggests that river water inflows to the Bay and spreads to the southward. δ13C values of litter' and soil were -25.7 ‰ and -29.3 ‰ respectively : these were apparently lower than those of marine plankton.
