Abstract

This research aims to analytically show that the software developed by us that recognizes handwritten Korean characters(hereafter referred to as handwriting electronic learning materials)is beneficial in Korean language learning. Survey data(3-tier evaluation for 18 questionnaires)from learners of different proficiency levels were used in the analysis. For statistical analysis,correspondence analyses with a focus on gender and proficiency level as well as chi-square test using multidimensional contingency tables were applied. The results of the analysis suggest that the handwriting electronic learning materials are effective for beginner learners in their study of the structure and understanding of Korean characters. The handwriting electronic learning materials also provide an effective method for memorizing words and learning grammar for experienced learners who are familiar with Korean characters.
