Abstract

As recent university graduates are experiencing increasing difficulty in finding a job,career formation support provided by universities is becoming more important.This paper describes a case of early-career formation support for students in acquiring information-related qualifications,in conjunction with a regular class of information education in the first year of junior college instruction.This is a trial case aimed at ‘visualizing’ the computer literacy acquired by students in their regular classes,in the form of the tangible achievement of acquiring qualifications,instead of merely having students ‘study’ the computer literacy.In this project,acquiring the well-known official certification of Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) was set as the ultimate goal.The first author of this article designed his regular class in information-processing so as to integrate it with the corresponding intensive certification course conducted during the summer vacation.As a result,the students were able to obtain the MOS certification in a short period of time.The learning outcomes of the students were successfully ‘visualized’ as a benefit of early-career formation support.
