Description
The “sense of solidity” is one of many impressions of an object. This impression is generally accepted, as are “sense of presence”, and “sense of perspective” ; therefore it doesn’t apply to plastic art only. But the sense of solidity differs from the volume of a perceived object. Because of this, sculpture is evaluated as art, not as a solid in teams of physics. The spatiality of a picture can be explained technically by perspective. Similarly, we may assume some technical process in sculpture to account for the sense of solidity. By inspecting the technical method in sculpture, we can see that the external force is an important factor in the expression of a work. The action done to the material incorporates some content other than the sculpture’s outer form by baring the physical property of the material.
