Abstract

Some experiments were developed for comprehension of DNA as a pure, acidic, and helix-structure material using extracted DNA from animal or plant tissues. The first experiment can show the high purity of extracted DNA, which contains little detectable proteins or polysaccharides, from fowl liver, salmon sperm and Broccoli (Brassica oleracea). The second experiment can make students recognize the helix structure of DNA by the structural analogy of helical starch structure detected by using ethidium bromide staining. The third experiment can exhibit the acidic nature of DNA by the same column chromatography behavior as acidic pigment.
