Abstract
Modern society is faced with various difficult problems which are large-scale and complicated. Learning strategies for problem solving in this imperfect world, or world without a unique solution, is required for children who have to live in the modern society. This point of view is reflected in the latest Guidelines for the Course of Study in Japan. In order to construct such a learning environment, an easy simulation software STELLA, which has been used one of the study tools of system thinking, is being introduced in school education. In this article, a new method of agent based modeling on STELLA is proposed to be able to treat complex problems. As a typical example of its application, "the tragedy of the commons" by G. Hardin, which is a dilemma-situation, is taken up in this paper. Social dilemma phenomena as collective events include important educational points of view and students can learn what problem solving is. For educational use, extendibility and flexibility of our framework on STELLA is confirmed throgh various simulations.
