<p>人工的水分・栄養補給法（artificial hydration and nutrition；以下、AHNと略）は改善することのない疾患や高齢者での適応を巡って議論されているが、何を指しているのかが明確になっていない。一般的には経管栄養や静脈栄養を指すことが多いが、医学的に特別な栄養法とは一致せず、患者や介護者のイメージで受け入れ状況が異なり、そこに医療者の誤った認識が影響して方針決定されていることを確認しなければならない。胃瘻を使った経管栄養は患者の病状によって、大きく位置づけが異なり、他の治療法と並んでひとつの医療技術に過ぎないが、何を AHNと判断するかが優先的に考慮されるべきで、対象となる患者にそれが適応となるか否かを方針決定する関係者全ての意見をすり合わせる必要がある。</p>
