Abstract

The development histories and organizational characteristics of the well-known Linux distributions, Debian and Ubuntu, are compared. Ubuntu was derived from Debian, and although these two platforms are almost the same technologically, there has been a major difference in their market acceptance. The reason for this can be found in the differences in development processes and leadership.
