Public Transport Service Level and Mobility Divide -Case Study in Portland and Okayama Metropolitan Area-

Abstract

This study clarified mobility divide by difference of public transport service. The target areas are Portland metropolitan, U.S. and Okayama metropolitan, Japan. The scale of the metropolitan areas of Portland and Okayama are similar. The level of public transport service in Portland is very high as compared with Okayama. The main results of analysis on the occurrence situation of mobility divide due to differences in level of public transport service are as follows. 1) In case of Okayama, there are no significant differences between the level of mobility restriction and the evaluation of travel convenience. But the higher the level of mobility restriction becomes, the trip frequency decrease. 2) In case of Portland, The people who are high level of mobility restriction have high opinion of travel convenience. And, there are no significant differences between the level of mobility restriction and the trip frequency. These facts indicate the possibility that high service level of public transport reduce mobility divide.
