Description
A new idea of stability for the finite difference scheme applied to the Cahn-Hilliard equation which describes a phase separation problem is proposed and its validity is verified through numerical experiments. We define the growth rate of the solution of the equation in terms of local Fourier resolution. Then, we introduce a stability based on the localized Fourier resolution for the finite difference scheme by embedding the range of the growth rate of the solution obtained by the scheme into that of the solution of the original equation. Under this stability condition we obtained a stable and reasonable numerical solution of the Cahn-Hilliard equation.
