Description

In this paper, I have attempted to contemplate the meaning of Minamoto no Tametomo's solitude described by Hogen Monogatari, considering the following facts: that Tametomo's judgement and assertion do not correspond with the unfolding of the Hogen Insurrection from the beginning to the end, that Tametomo is seen as "the pretender who wants to rule the world by himself," "the ungrateful son," and that Tametomo's bow and arrows have an extraordinary appearance. With the hope of redemption, I have also discussed how these characteristics contribute to the differing characterization of Tametomo from one text to another.
