Abstract

"More than forty years which have passed" in Senjusho, is considered to be a phrase quoted from "Tendai Goji Kyohan." In order to illustrate the aspects of Senjusho, which is defined as "the teachings of ordinary life" in contrast to the "Hokekyo", the following characteristics are exemplified ; the narratives in Okagami, the monogatari viewpoint found in the volume of "Hotaru no Maki" in Genji Monogatari, and the acceptance of the old interpretations and notes of Genji Monogatari in medieval ages. The "Kyogen Kigo" viewpoint is also used to discuss the work. At the same time, the aspects of the narrator referred to as "Gusha" are analyzed in terms of the functional elements. The structure of the work is explained from the standpoint that it duplicates the image of "Ojosha" who takes after that of Saigyo.
