Description

Shinran is a philosopher who shows us a true and universal thought beyond the idea of Japanese community by criticizing most profoundly the worship of heavenly and earthly gods which is the basis of the Tenno system, and that in the midst of Japanese mental climate which regards the Tenno's authority as absolute. The worldly form of religion is not free from egoism and egotism, although it constitutes part of the national regime. The true Jodo (Pure Land) belief overcomes the worship of heavenly and earthly gods which is nothing but a superstition only praying for the self-centered interests. And this belief is the possibility which can subdue the Japanese mentality under the Tenno system.
