Description

Together with Hitachibokaison, Kasabutashikibu Ko is a representative work of Akimoto Matsuyo. It combines the folk legend of "Kasayamishikibu" and the tragedy of a family suffering from contamination by carbon monoxide at the mining accident resulting in explosion, to create a unique dramatic space. Dramatizing the process in which Isa, the patient's mother, actually discerns the diseased part of contemporary life, i.e., kasa, and decides to accept it on her own, Akimoto succeeded in accusing severely a contemporary sickness in her dramatic and literary medium.
