Abstract

"Wake-no-Kiyomaro-kahaku-ni-miko-wo-tuosurukoto" is the second tale of the third volume of Horou-kosetsu-uji-no-sono, a satirical story published in the forth year of the Kansei Period. The author Soyoan-Hikaru based his work largely on the two sources: the episode of the "oracle at the Usa-Hachiman Shrine" in Nihon-odai-ichiran and "Kokkei-redden" of Shiki. The exact transcription of words and phrases form the original texts shows his respect toward them. But there are some episodes Soyoan himself wrote for the story. While he was writing it, Soyoan was much worried about Ishikawa-Gabo who suffered under a false charge. Probably this seemingly irregular arrangement has something to do with his friend's predicament.
