Description
In this article I will give further consideration to the problem of gender that Shinichi Yasuda raises in his study of Torikaebaya-monogatari. In so doingIwill focus on the boyish girl's bodily gesture, especially her way of weeping. Under the influence of Genji-monogatari the representation of a woman's tears is also gendered in Torikaebaya-monogatari. But strategically deploying the traditional way of representing a female body, the author manages to show the possibility of gender exchange.
