Description
The aim of this article is to analyze sexual politics in Genji-monogatari and other narratives of the Heian Period. Discourses on love affairs, sex and disease in fiction are heavily gendered although they may seem politically neutral. In the scene of a rape, for instance, only the voice of a male narrator can be heard while the woman victim remains an object to be observed and described. Thus discursive and narrative syntax itself is sexually political and male-centered.
