Abstract

Homei Iwano, greatly influenced by Tokoku Kitamura, based his Mystical Animalism on "inner being." He grasped the "inner being" as a governing subject both of body and spirit. This idea owes much to Schopenhauer's Die Welt als Wille und Vorstellung. More exactly, Homei made his own theory by reading Schopenhauer in terms of Darwinism while using Nietzscheanism with reservation. This is why Mystical Animalism is so naturalistic, symbolistic and critical of modernization.
