Abstract

Hakusa-jin-shū is an underrecognized work on the poetical style of Matsuo-Bashō which is supposed to be written by Katō-Kyōtai, a poet of Owari Province (present-day Aichi Prefecture). As I will show in this article, Katō not only wrote the book but also was directly concerned with the publication of it. What is more important, he omitted the chapter of poetical conventions in his editorial work of Kyorai-shō as part of his publishing strategy of Hakusa-jin-shū.
