Description
I researched 30 beginners in regards to their acquisition of Japanese sentence structure. I analyzed the variety, length, complexity and the accuracy of the sentences spoken by the students, using utterance and T-unit as units, by comparing them with the sentences of Japanese native speakers. The sentences of the students contain more incomplete sentences and less sentences made up of one word. The result of the T-examination indicates that there is no difference between the numbers of T-unit per utterance of the students and Japanese native speakers, however, there is an considerable gap in using complex and compound sentences. The students are able to use simple sentences, however they have difficulty to use complex and compound sentences.
