Abstract

Following the Japanese Cabinet meeting on anti-crime in 2012, the "Overall Countermeasure for Anti-Crime/Delinquency" law was passed resulting in many policies and actions being enacted. It is expected that juvenile delinquent correctional facilities will assume a larger responsibility for securing the home life and occupation of juveniles. The Juvenile Delinquent Correctional Home, or Risshoen, specializes in these cases and has the highest record of accommodating juvenile offenders. In order to understand what kind of support needs to take place at the Risshoen, we look at age, the current living situation, criminal record and past correctional facilities. In order to assess the quality of care, we record specifically how the Risshoen is caring for the juveniles, the lengths of stay, current occupational status and attitudes toward work. The necessity of a The Juvenile Delinquent Correctional Home needs to be understood. There are a number of juveniles in our facility who live independently of their parents due to poor communication skills or other factors. We believe that it is our responsibility, as a society, to help these youth acquire the skills to live independently so that they may become healthy, functional adults.
