Abstract

The incorporation of acetyl CoA into fatty acid by epidermal mitochondria was confirmed. Elongation of short chain fatty acids with one C_2 unit-acetyl-CoA was a major reaction. The dialyzate of the freezed and thawed epidermal mitochondria lost its activity, which was recovered completly by adding 0.4μm of pyridoxal phosphate. The enzymic activity was purified to 133 fold the potency after DEAE-cellulose column treatment. ATP, NADPH and NADH were required as cofactors.
