説明

The screen painting "Gion Festival" by Ryuei Momota was discovered in June 1981. The painter is not so famous, but this work of his is very interesting. This picture consists of a pair of sixfolding screens, 77.6×245cm, in coloured and golden paper. Each screen is signed "Ryuei hitsu" and has his seal. Ryuei is one of the four great pupils of Tanyu Kano (1602-1674), and his portrait of Tanyu is well-known. From his paintings and some others I considered the Japanese "Fuzokuga" by the Kano school in the Genroku Era (1688-1703).
