Abstract

The educational reforming trends in Japan have been influenced by the concept of "competency" from the national standards in the U.S. and the assessment with PISA. "No-ryoku" in Japanese, corresponding to "ability" in English, means various modes of "ability",such as faculty, capacity, potentiality, and competency. "Competency" means not only the power of competition in business interests, but also the power of communication with each other. We should take notice of the latter case in art education for developing the curriculum and the system of assessment. To prove the significance of "aesthetic sensibility ("kan-sei" in Japanese)" for the curriculum in art education remains to be solved.
