- J051013 Simulation analysis for the increase of ball speed in water polo

In this study, the throwing motion to increase the ball speed in water polo was solved by an optimizing calculation. The simplified simulation model for the throwing motion was developed in order to reduce the computation time. Since the ball and right hand were unified in the simplified model, the right hand velocity was used for the evaluation instead of the ball speed. The Particle Swarm Optimization was used for the optimizing method. The objective function consisted of the right hand velocity and a penalty term regarding the hip joint torque. The design parameters were the hip flexion/extension angles of four time frames around the time of ball release. From the simulation results, it was found that the throwing motion to increase the ball speed was accompanied by both legs moving ahead and the left leg moving more ahead than the right leg. It was found that the right hand velocity was increased by the rotational movements about two principal axes which were close to the cephalocaudal and lateral axes. It was found that the right hand velocity was increased also by the falling movement of the upper body which was produced by the conservation of angular momentum. It was found that these rotational movements about two axes and the movement by the conservation of angular momentum were the factors to increase the right hand velocity.
