Abstract
A car navigation system using a smart phone is a new tool developed for providing traffic information to drivers and recently the navigation system using a smart phone has been developed. More information is expected to be provided to drivers. However, sometimes the navigation system becomes disturbance for the drivers and causes distraction during driving, which may result in a traffic accident. Therefore, it is an urgent work to evaluate safety of several types of the car navigation systems. In the study, a driving simulator, where a car navigation system can be utilized, is built to study behaviors of drivers by using the car navigation systems. The safety of the car navigation systems are discussed through the driving experiments using the driving simulator.
