抄録

Recently the demand of the Wheelchair Transfer Vehicles (WCTV) which transport elderly and disabled persons sitting in their wheelchair is increasing rapidly. Accordingly the number of accidents during transfer of people is also escalating. This study researched WCTV users who had encountered "Hiyari・Hatto" (HH) while they rode WCTV's. Then we analyzed the results. We sent questionnaires to WCTV users and got 116 responses (25% response rate) including 79 people (68%) who were over 65 years old. In addition almost half (49%) of the survey participants had some physical handicap caused by CVA (Cerebral Vascular Accident). The result showed that those who had serious handicaps (30%) complained of fatigue and of neck and body stress and tension. Some blamed the instability due to the high position of their wheelchair in the WCTV, the insufficient anchoring of the chair to the vehicle and their not being properly supported and secured in the chair. Another finding was that when those with serious handicaps used WCTV's without headrests, they experienced severe shock whenever the car started or stopped.
