Description

Viscoelastic flows in a T-shaped merged channel were experimentally studied in a wide rage of flow rates. In these experiments 0.2 wt% and 0.5 wt% solutions of polyacrylamide (PAA) were used. Stable vortices are observed at low flnow rates. However, the height of vortex oscillates as the flow rate increases. The vortex oscillation induces the unstable bundle-like flow i.e. the flow containing a few bundles of streamlines in the merged area. At higher flow rates the bundles unite to form one bundle in each side upstream of the entrance to the narrow slit. Furthermore, one entrance of the wide slits of the T-shaped channel was closed to examine the effect of merging of the flows.
