Abstract

In order to clarify the relationship between gathering fish around artificial reefs and prey small organisms on and around artificial reef, we have performed reserch. Diving observation and sampling fishes by gill net and cover net at the artificial reefs were done from 2004 to 2006 in two sites, one is in the coast in Hinase city Okayama prefecture and the other is in Noto city, Ishikawa prefecture. As results, there were twenty-nine kinds of fish at artificial reefs in Hinase, and the most observed fish was the black porgy (Acanthopagrus schlegeli). On the other hand, there were forty-eight kinds of fish at artificial reefs in Noto, and the most observed fish were the damsel fish (Chromis notata), the pudding wife (Halichoeres poecilopterus) , and the whitegirdled goby (Pterogobius zonoleucus). An unconfirmed fish in the diving observation was included in sampling fishes by gill net and cover net. The sampling fishes by cover net can take the fish living among seaweeds. And, we found out that using the diving observation together with the sampling fishes by gill net and cover net is effective to distinguish the gathering fish around artificial reefs more appropriately. We observed digestive organs contents of scorpion fish (Sebastiscus marmoratus), black rockfish (Sebastes inermis) and spottybelly greenling (Hexagrammos agrammus), and compared to another observation results, which is the distribution of prey small organisms on and around artificial reefs. These three kinds of fish were preying the arthropod and annelid. Then organisms of small size that live in the artificial reefs are important food for gathering fish.
