Description

The ionic liquid was evaluated for lubricating property of steel/steel contact at high-temperature. The friction and wear properties were investigated by using the SRV oscillating friction and wear tester. The worn surface were observed with an optical microscope. A good tribological performance was shown up to 150℃. After the experiments, corrosion was confirmed on the worn surface, and the corrosion has increased as time went on. Under the sliding conditions in nitrogen, however, there were not observed such a corrosive phenomenon. The halogen free ionic liquids also did not show the corrosive effect. It is considered that the hydrogen fluoride, which formed by the reaction of the anion with oxygen or water in atmosphere, causes the corrosive property of the ionic liquids.
