説明

The effects of free-stream turbulence on the initial growth of boundary layer are investigated by direct numerical simulation (DNS). The free-stream turbulence is generated by a biplane rectangular grid. The characteristic quantities and mean velocity profile in the boundary layer with grid-generated turbulence (GT) are compared with those in a pure boundary layer without any disturbances in thc free-stream, but with tripping object near the inlet. The results show that the boundary layer in the case with GT has been in turbulent state even though the Reynolds number based on the momentum thickness, Reθ, is low. 0n the other hand, in the case without GT, only low-amplitude fluctuations are generated near the tripping object and the boundary layer has not approached the fully developed turbulent state under the current condition.
