Description
Through the model experiment, we have investigated parameters of distinct element method which is computer simulations of soil excavation. We constructed a soil mountain, then, insert the cylindrical tool horizontally in it. In the model experiment the force which diffuses in the soil can be measured by the pressure distribution sensor put on the side wall, back wall and the base of the soil. Additionally, we measured the tool reaction force by force sensors. The tool pushes the grain in the soil, then that grain pushes the grains around that. So the force diffuses mainly in front of the tool. We compare the result of the experiment with the result of the distinct element method. The tool reaction force was same in the experiment and distinct element method. However, the pressure distribution was different each other. This difference is caused by the mechanism of grain relocation.
