Abstract
To solve the serious global warming problem, reduction of CO2 emission is expected in a coastal marine transportation area. As one of the solutions, a Super Eco-Ship project has been executed and several results have been applied for actual eco-ships. Analyses of the propulsion system based on measurements of propulsion shaft revolution and torque are effective for energy saving ship operations. We have analyzed navigation data of a coastal ship in service to clear an improvement in energy transformation for an electric propulsion system. This report shows a comparison of fuel consumption between a normal conducting electric system and a high temperature superconducting system based on actual navigation data of a coastal ship in service.
