抄録

Not a small percentage of the causes of fire hazards is due to the careless handling of an electric iron. When an electric iron was suspected to be the source of a fire hazard, observations were made thoroughly upon the external appearance of the electric iron and upon the change of the appearance of mica inside the electric iron in order to determine whether the electric iron was the very source of the fire hazard or not.<br>This is because there has been common opinion among fire hazard investigators that mica plates inside an electric iron turn opaque when the iron itself is the source of a fire, while it shows no remarkable change when it is heated from outside by the fire originating in other sources.<br>Some experiments have been made on the change of appearance of heated mica plates to testify the above opinion. The results were negative and the appearance changed, in some cases, when the iron was heated from outside.
