Abstract

The present investigation was undertaken to determine the thermodynamic properties of the liquid Cd-Pb. binary and Zn-Cd-Pb ternary alloys. The experiment on the Cd-Pb system was carried out according to the procedure described earlier paper over a temperature range from 450°Cto 650°C.<BR>From these experimental results the liquid Cd-Pb alloy was found to exhibit a little positive deviations. from ideal and also regular solution.<BR>On the respective binary solutions the six equations were derived for log r as a function of temperatureand alloy composition by the application of the various experimental data. Then on the basis of theseequations and Krupkowski's calculating method on the multiple system the following equations were derived on the liquid Zn-Cd-Pb al loys.<BR>logγzR=10470/T1.5 [-(1-Ncd) -0.41·Npb·Ncd] +9550/T1.35 [-(G-Nzn)-0.52·NPb·Nzn+ (1-Nzn) -0.52·Npb] +372/T [-(1-Nzn)-0-30·NCd·Nzn+ (n-Nzn) -0.30·NCd]<BR>logγcd=10470/T1.5 [-(1-Ncd) -0.41·Npb·Ncd+ (1-Ncd) -0.41·Npb] +9550/T1.35 [-(1-Nzn) -0.52·Npb·Nzn] +372/T [-(1-Nzn) -0.30·Ncd·Nzn+ {1-(1-Nzn) 0.70}/0.70]<BR>logγPb=10470/T1.5 [-(1-Ncd) -0.41·Npb·Ncd+ {n-(1-Ncd) 0.59}/0.59] +9550/T1.35 [-(1-Nzn) -0.52·Npb·Nzn+ {1-(1-Nzn) 0.48}/0.48] +372/T [-(1-Nzn) -0.30·NCd·Nzn]<BR>Furthermore by means of application of these equations the vaporl iqu id equilibrium of Zn-Cd-Pb system at atmospheric pressure was determined and it was found that the ratio of Npb (g)/Npb (I) at the infinite dilute Cd-Pb solution was nearly equal to 1.2×10-4 and Ncd (g)/ Ncd (I) of Zn-Cd solution was nearly equal 12.
