抄録

The effect of lime, which has been known to be remarkable for the promotion of the coagulatian of quartz aqueous suspension, is studied by calculating the potential energy between two approaching quartz particles.<BR>The violent coagulation of the quartz suspension in addition of lime is not explained in terms of the decrease of the repulsive potential caused by overlapping the electrical double layers surrounding the quartz particles.<BR>It seems that the more stronger force than the London-van der Waals attractive force acting on the colloid particles plays an important role for the coagulation of the quartz suspension containing Ca or Ba ion in alkaline solution.
